This famous Christmas passage gives hope to those who were walking in darkness. Again, geographical location is important as the northern tribes of Zebulun and Naphtali, had walked in darkness due to the oppression of Israel’s northern neighbors. But Isaiah prophesied that a “child is born” and a “son given” who would be the light to shine on those dwelling in deep darkness. We will celebrate how the lights of the season remind us of a great light that has shone in this dark world through Jesus. We will encourage those walking in darkness to search for the light of Jesus during Christmas.
