When the angel told the shepherds that “to you is born today, in the city of David, a savior, who is Christ the Lord” it was a fulfillment of this prophecy from Micah. The location was verified by the religious leaders in the first century when Herod asked where the scriptures said Jesus would be born (Matthew 2:4-5). Christ would be born in this little town and he would bring peace. This is why the angels sang “peace on earth” as fulfillment of the prophet’s “he shall be their peace.” This sermon will celebrate how God uses small (Bethlehem) to do big things (birthplace of the Messiah) and how Jesus can bring peace in the strangest of places and smallest of ways.
