Though the word “subject” is not found in this passage specifically, the “humble yourselves' ' in verse six is part of the context of choosing under. In this case we are told to choose to come under God’s mighty hand. We do this by casting our cares on him, resisting his enemy the devil, and standing firm in the faith until the day when the suffering is over and he restores us, confirms us, strengthens us, and establishes us forever. Until then, we are subject to this world’s temptation and suffering, trusting that ultimately God is in control.
